The Green Series
In order to foster environmental awareness within our community, Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery has curated a program of site specific art installations in The Vault for 2012. Six artists were selected to participate who are focusing on a range of environmental concerns, from the health of our oceans, through to the impact gas fields are having on our central Australian environment. The artists are working across many mediums; natural materials, recycled materials, found objects, photography and print making. Environmental concerns are increasingly at the forefront of the Australian national psyche, and while scientists and the media report the facts and figures concerning climate change and global warming, it is artists who also have an important role to play. Artists can connect us to, and make us feel for the issues. Call it environmental art or political art, but the best kind of art around it that which makes you not only feel, but also think. We invite you to engage with our year long program and visit each of the participating artist’s installations throughout the year. Hopefully we will all become a little more aware of the impact that we are having on our environment and realise that our natural resources are finite.
